'git column's '--nl' option can be used to specify a "string to be
printed at the end of each line" (quoting the man page), but this
option and its mandatory argument has been parsed as OPT_INTEGER since
the introduction of the command in 7e29b8254f (Add column layout
skeleton and git-column, 2012-04-21).  Consequently, any non-number
argument is rejected by parse-options, and any number other than 0
leads to segfault:

  $ printf "%s\n" one two |git column --mode=plain --nl=foo
  error: option `nl' expects a numerical value
  $ printf "%s\n" one two |git column --mode=plain --nl=42
  Segmentation fault (core dumped)
  $ printf "%s\n" one two |git column --mode=plain --nl=0
  one
  two

Parse this option as OPT_STRING.

It is customary not to begin the help text for each option given to
the parse-options API with a capital letter. Various (sub)commands'
option arrays don't follow the guideline provided by the parse_options
Documentation regarding the descriptions.

Downcase the first word of some option descriptions for "column"
and "range-diff".

<title>builtin: consistently pass cmd_* prefix to parse_options</title>

If a builtin uses RUN_SETUP to request that git.c enter the repository
directory, we'll get passed in a "prefix" variable with the path to the
original directory. It's important to pass this to parse_options(),
since we may use it to fix up relative OPT_FILENAME() options. Some
builtins don't bother; let's make sure we do so consistently.

There may not be any particular bugs fixed here; OPT_FILENAME is
actually pretty rare, and none of these commands use it directly.
However, this does future-proof us against somebody adding an option
that uses it and creating a subtle bug that only shows up when you're in
a subdirectory of the repository.

In some cases, like hash-object and upload-pack, we don't specify
RUN_SETUP, so we know the prefix will always be empty. It's still worth
passing the variable along to keep the idiom consistent across all
builtins (and of course it protects us if they ever _did_ switch to
using RUN_SETUP).

<title>column: fix off-by-one default width</title>

By default we want to fill the whole screen if possible, but we do not
want to use up _all_ terminal columns because the last character is
going hit the border, push the cursor over and wrap. Keep it at
default value zero, which will make print_columns() set the width at
term_columns() - 1.

This affects the test in t7004 because effective column width before
was 40 but now 39 so we need to compensate it by one or the output at
39 columns has a different layout.

Multiple lines read here are concatenated on a single line to form a
multi-column output line. We do not want to have a CR at the end,
even if the input file consists of CRLF terminated lines.

<title>strbuf: introduce strbuf_getline_{lf,nul}()</title>

<id>urn:sha1:8f309aeb8225a9c26f20c0dbc031f1ea8df75d49</id>

The strbuf_getline() interface allows a byte other than LF or NUL as
the line terminator, but this is only because I wrote these
codepaths anticipating that there might be a value other than NUL
and LF that could be useful when I introduced line_termination long
time ago. No useful caller that uses other value has emerged.

By now, it is clear that the interface is overly broad without a
good reason. Many codepaths have hardcoded preference to read
either LF terminated or NUL terminated records from their input, and
then call strbuf_getline() with LF or NUL as the third parameter.

This step introduces two thin wrappers around strbuf_getline(),
namely, strbuf_getline_lf() and strbuf_getline_nul(), and
mechanically rewrites these call sites to call either one of
them. The changes contained in this patch are:

 * introduction of these two functions in strbuf.[ch]

 * mechanical conversion of all callers to strbuf_getline() with
   either '\n' or '\0' as the third parameter to instead call the
   respective thin wrapper.

After this step, output from "git grep 'strbuf_getline('" would
become a lot smaller. An interim goal of this series is to make
this an empty set, so that we can have strbuf_getline_crlf() take
over the shorter name strbuf_getline().

This patch puts the usage info strings that were not already in docopt-
like format into docopt-like format, which will be a litle easier for
end users and a lot easier for translators. Changes include:

- Placing angle brackets around fill-in-the-blank parameters
- Putting dashes in multiword parameter names
- Adding spaces to [-f|--foobar] to make [-f | --foobar]
- Replacing &lt;foobar&gt;* with [&lt;foobar&gt;...]

Leaving only the function definitions and declarations so that any
new topic in flight can still make use of the old functions, replace
existing uses of the prefixcmp() and suffixcmp() with new API
functions.

The change can be recreated by mechanically applying this:

    $ git grep -l -e prefixcmp -e suffixcmp -- \*.c |
      grep -v strbuf\\.c |
      xargs perl -pi -e '
        s|!prefixcmp\(|starts_with\(|g;
        s|prefixcmp\(|!starts_with\(|g;
        s|!suffixcmp\(|ends_with\(|g;
        s|suffixcmp\(|!ends_with\(|g;
      '

on the result of preparatory changes in this series.
