We can remove 'q' from blk_execute_rq as well after the previous change in blk_execute_rq_nowait. And more importantly it never really was needed to start with given that we can trivial derive it from struct request. Move the non-"new_io" branch of blk_account_io_start() into separate function. Fix merge accounting for discards (they were counted as write merges). The new blk_account_io_merge_bio() doesn't call update_io_ticks() unlike blk_account_io_start(), as there is no reason for that. block: account statistics for passthrough requests

Presently, passthrough requests are not accounted for because blk_do_io_stat() expressly rejects them. Based on some digging in the history, this doesn't seem like a concious decision but one that evolved from the change from blk_fs_request() to blk_rq_is_passthrough(). To support this, call blk_account_io_start() in blk_execute_rq_nowait() and remove the passthrough check in blk_do_io_stat(). block: remove dead elevator code

This removes a bunch of core and elevator related code. On the core front, we remove anything related to queue running, draining, initialization, plugging, and congestions. We also kill anything related to request allocation, merging, retrieval, and completion. Remove any checking for single queue IO schedulers, as they no longer exist. This means we can also delete a bunch of code related to request issue, adding, completion, etc - and all the SQ related ops and helpers.
