Merge branch 'nd/shallow-fixup' into maint
Code cleanup in shallow boundary computation.
* nd/shallow-fixup:
shallow.c: remove useless code
shallow.c: bit manipulation tweaks
shallow.c: avoid theoretical pointer wrap-around
