2026-04-02drm/vc4: Protect madv read in vc4_gem_object_mmap() with madv_lockMaíra Canal-0/+3
The mmap callback reads bo->madv without holding madv_lock, racing with concurrent DRM_IOCTL_VC4_GEM_MADVISE calls that modify the field under the same lock. Add the missing locking to prevent the data race. 2026-04-02drm/vc4: Fix a memory leak in hang state error pathMaíra Canal-8/+10
When vc4_save_hang_state() encounters an early return condition, it returns without freeing the previously allocated `kernel_state`, leaking memory. Add the missing kfree() calls by consolidating the early return paths into a single place. Fixes: 214613656b51 ("drm/vc4: Add an interface for capturing the GPU state after a hang.") 2026-04-02drm/vc4: Fix memory leak of BO array in hang stateMaíra Canal-0/+1
The hang state's BO array is allocated separately with kzalloc() in vc4_save_hang_state() but never freed in vc4_free_hang_state(). Add the missing kfree() for the BO array before freeing the hang state struct. Fixes: 214613656b51 ("drm/vc4: Add an interface for capturing the GPU state after a hang.") 2026-04-02drm/vc4: Release runtime PM reference after binding V3DMaíra Canal-0/+1
The vc4_v3d_bind() function acquires a runtime PM reference via pm_runtime_resume_and_get() to access V3D registers during setup. However, this reference is never released after a successful bind. This prevents the device from ever runtime suspending, since the reference count never reaches zero. Release the runtime PM reference by adding pm_runtime_put_autosuspend() after autosuspend is configured, allowing the device to runtime suspend after the delay. 2026-03-24drm/display: hdmi: Use drm_output_color_format instead of hdmi_colorspaceMaxime Ripard-10/+10
The hdmi_colorspace enum was defined to represent the colorspace value of the HDMI infoframes. It was later used by some HDMI drivers to express the output format they should be setting up. During the introduction of the HDMI helpers, it then was used to represent it in the drm_connector_hdmi_state structure. However, it's always been somewhat redundant with the DRM_COLOR_FORMAT_* defines, and now with the drm_output_color_format enum. Let's consolidate around drm_output_color_format in drm_connector_hdmi_state to facilitate the current effort to provide a global output format selection mechanism. 2026-03-20drm/atomic: Remove state argument to drm_atomic_private_obj_initMaxime Ripard-3/+1
Now that all drm_private_objs users have been converted to use atomic_create_state instead of the old ad-hoc initialization, we can remove the state parameter from drm_private_obj_init and the fallback code. 2026-02-21Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL argumentsLinus Torvalds-2/+1
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_flex' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds-1/+1
This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex() interface. As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather than 'objs*'. 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds-18/+18
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate conversion. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook-26/+23
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org>
2026-02-16drm/vc4: hdmi: replace use of system_wq with system_percpu_wqMarco Crivellari-2/+2
Currently if a user enqueues a work item using schedule_delayed_work() the used wq is "system_wq" (per-cpu wq) while queue_delayed_work() use WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a cpu is not specified). The same applies to schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND. This lack of consistency cannot be addressed without refactoring the API. This patch continues the effort to refactor worqueue APIs, which has begun with the change introducing new workqueues and a new alloc_workqueue flag: commit 128ea9f6ccfb ("workqueue: Add system_percpu_wq and system_dfl_wq") commit 930c2ea566af ("workqueue: Add new WQ_PERCPU flag") system_wq should be the per-cpu workqueue, yet in this name nothing makes that clear, so replace system_wq with system_percpu_wq. The old wq (system_wq) will be kept for a few release cycles. 2026-02-10drm/vc4: Switch private_obj initialization to atomic_create_stateMaxime Ripard-21/+48
The vc4 driver relies on a drm_private_obj, that is initialized by allocating and initializing a state, and then passing it to drm_private_obj_init. Since we're gradually moving away from that pattern to the more established one relying on a atomic_create_state implementation, let's migrate this instance to the new pattern. 2026-02-02drm/vc4: Replace IDR with XArray for perfmon trackingMaíra Canal-34/+22
The IDR interface is deprecated and the XArray API is the recommended replacement. Replace the per-file IDR used to track perfmons with an XArray. This allows us to remove the external mutex that protects the IDR. While at it, introduce the vc4_perfmon_delete() helper to consolidate the perfmon cleanup logic used by both vc4_perfmon_close_file() and vc4_perfmon_destroy_ioctl(). Also, remove the redundant assignment of vc4file->dev to itself in vc4_perfmon_open_file(). 2026-01-19drm/display: hdmi_state_helper: split InfoFrame functions per typeDmitry Baryshkov-2/+80
Havign a single set of InfoFrame callbacks doesn't provide enough information to the DRM framework about the InfoFrame types that are actually supported. Also it's not really future-proof: it provides a way to program only a single Vendor-Specific frame, however we might need to support multiple VSIs at the same time (e.g. HDMI vs HDMI Forum VSIs). Provide separate sets of callbacks, one per the InfoFrame type. 2026-01-16drm: Discard pm_runtime_put() return valueRafael J. Wysocki-14/+3
Multiple DRM drivers use the pm_runtime_put() return value for printing debug or even error messages and all of those messages are at least somewhat misleading. Returning an error code from pm_runtime_put() merely means that it has not queued up a work item to check whether or not the device can be suspended and there are many perfectly valid situations in which that can happen, like after writing "on" to the devices' runtime PM "control" attribute in sysfs for one example. It also happens when the kernel has been configured with CONFIG_PM unset. For this reason, modify all of those drivers to simply discard the pm_runtime_put() return value which is what they should be doing. This will facilitate a planned change of the pm_runtime_put() return type to void in the future. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. 2025-10-06drm/vc4: Switch to drm_atomic_get_new_crtc_state()Maxime Ripard-4/+2
The vc4 atomic_check implementation uses the deprecated drm_atomic_get_existing_crtc_state() helper. This hook is called as part of the global atomic_check, thus before the states are swapped. The existing state thus points to the new state, and we can use drm_atomic_get_new_crtc_state() instead. 2025-04-07drm/vc4: tests: Stop allocating the state in test initMaxime Ripard-14/+27
The vc4-pv-muxing-combinations and vc5-pv-muxing-combinations test suites use a common test init function which, in part, allocates the drm atomic state the test will use. That allocation relies on drm_kunit_helper_atomic_state_alloc(), and thus requires a struct drm_modeset_acquire_ctx. This context will then be stored in the allocated state->acquire_ctx field. However, the context is local to the test init function, and is cleared as soon as drm_kunit_helper_atomic_state_alloc() is done. We thus end up with an dangling pointer to a cleared context in state->acquire_ctx for our test to consumes. We should really allocate the context and the state in the test functions, so we can also control when we're done with it. The vc4_mock_atomic_add_output() and vc4_mock_atomic_del_output() assert that the functions they are calling didn't fail. Since some of them can return EDEADLK, we can't properly deal with it. Since both functions are expected to return an int, and all caller check the return value, let's just properly propagate the errors when they occur. 2025-03-20drm/bridge: Add encoder parameter to drm_bridge_funcs.attachMaxime Ripard-1/+2
The drm_bridge structure contains an encoder pointer that is widely used by bridge drivers. This pattern is largely documented as deprecated in other KMS entities for atomic drivers. However, one of the main use of that pointer is done in attach to just call drm_bridge_attach on the next bridge to add it to the bridge list. While this dereferences the bridge->encoder pointer, it's effectively the same encoder the bridge was being attached to. We can make it more explicit by adding the encoder the bridge is attached to to the list of attach parameters. This also removes the need to dereference bridge->encoder in most drivers. 2025-02-14drm/atomic: Let drivers decide which planes to async flipAndré Almeida-1/+1
Currently, DRM atomic uAPI allows only primary planes to be flipped asynchronously. However, each driver might be able to perform async flips in other different plane types. To enable drivers to set their own restrictions on which type of plane they can or cannot flip, use the existing atomic_async_check() from struct drm_plane_helper_funcs to enhance this flexibility, thus allowing different plane types to be able to do async flips as well. Create a new parameter for the atomic_async_check(), `bool flip`. This parameter is used to distinguish when this function is being called from a plane update from a full page flip. In order to prevent regressions and such, we keep the current policy: we skip the driver check for the primary plane, because it is always allowed to do async flips on it.
