2024-12-17fbdev: Fix recursive dependencies wrt BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICEThomas Zimmermann1-0/+1
Do not select BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE from FB_BACKLIGHT. The latter only controls backlight support within fbdev core code and data structures. Make fbdev drivers depend on BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE and let users select it explicitly. Fixes warnings about recursive dependencies, such as error: recursive dependency detected! symbol BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE is selected by FB_BACKLIGHT symbol FB_BACKLIGHT is selected by FB_SH_MOBILE_LCDC symbol FB_SH_MOBILE_LCDC depends on FB_DEVICE symbol FB_DEVICE depends on FB_CORE symbol FB_CORE is selected by DRM_GEM_DMA_HELPER symbol DRM_GEM_DMA_HELPER is selected by DRM_PANEL_ILITEK_ILI9341 symbol DRM_PANEL_ILITEK_ILI9341 depends on BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE is user-selectable, so making drivers adapt to it is the correct approach in any case. 2023-06-27fbdev: Make support for userspace interfaces configurableThomas Zimmermann1-0/+1
Add Kconfig option CONFIG_FB_DEVICE and make the virtual fbdev device optional. If the new option has not been selected, fbdev does not create files in devfs, sysfs or procfs. Most modern Linux systems run a DRM-based graphics stack that uses the kernel's framebuffer console, but has otherwise deprecated fbdev support. Yet fbdev userspace interfaces are still present. The option makes it possible to use the fbdev subsystem as console implementation without support for userspace. This closes potential entry points to manipulate kernel or I/O memory via framebuffers. It also prevents the execution of driver code via ioctl or sysfs, both of which might allow malicious software to exploit bugs in the fbdev code. A small number of fbdev drivers require struct fbinfo.dev to be initialized, usually for the support of sysfs interface. Make these drivers depend on FB_DEVICE. Commit c440eee1a7a1 ("Staging: fbtft: Switch to the gpio descriptor interface") removed the gpio code from fbtft_device rendering it useless. fbtft_device is a module that was used on the Raspberry Pi to dynamically add fbtft devices when the Pi didn't have Device Tree support. Just remove the module since it's the responsibility of Device Tree, ACPI or platform code to add devices. Commit c440eee1a7a1 ("Staging: fbtft: Switch to the gpio descriptor interface") removed setting gpios via platform data. This means that fbtft will now only work with Device Tree so set the dependency. This also prevents a NULL pointer deref on non-DT platform because fbtftops.request_gpios is not set in that case anymore. This patch adds support for the SH1106 OLED controller chip. It's similar to the SSD1306, however it supports only a subset of commands and the internal video memory has a different width. Major differences: - Internal video memory has a width of 132 pixels - Only a subset of commands is supported - Only page addressing mode is supported, no support for vertical and horizontal addressing - SPI frequency limited to 2 MHz according to the datasheet Successfully tested with a 1.3" OLED display with this chip and SPI interface. The GPIO subsystem provides dummy GPIO consumer functions if GPIOLIB is not enabled. Hence drivers that depend on GPIOLIB, but use GPIO consumer functionality only, can still be compiled if GPIOLIB is not enabled.
